The GroomGroom Speech

Amongst the melee of preparations, the Groom’s speech is often put off until the last moment. And is it any wonder, what with suits to order, vows to remember, and the stag night to enjoy? Indeed, it is not unknown for the Groom to be spotted writing his address on the morning of the wedding!

But for all that, the Groom’s Speech assumes a great importance amongst the many events of the day. In his short address, the Groom must share his feelings for his wife, and his words therefore assume great significance.  It is this that can therefore cause the Groom a dilemma. Whilst he will obviously want to declare his love and affection for his new wife, he may also feel the need to avoid being overly sentimental. The secret of a successful Groom’s speech is therefore to adopt a balanced approach, combining sentiment and humour into one touching address. But as with all speeches, it is important to remember that there is no substitute for preparation. After all, isn’t it strange how a lot of Groom’s speeches sound like they were written at the last moment….
